well, can use pwnage tool, hence the etc. Ive always used snowbreeze since its more for winblows ;) I did the spirit2pwn method on my old 3gs before it was a cydia package.

In cydia search for "spirit2pwn" This will change it to a pwn'ed jailbreak and you can then use snowbreeze or etc to cook an ipsw to install 4.0.1 (custom ipsw's dont validate to apple i believe, cant remember and im at work)

In a round about way yes, he should be able to use snowbreeze to create a 4.0.1 custome ipsw to put on it. No im not gonna give a how to, theres plenty of guides around to google up lol
