I am really not trying to hurt anyone's feelings.

My family, on both sides, originated from Central and Eastern Europe, they all came to the US in the XX century. I have no connection to slave trade, voting discrimination, KKK or Jim Crow laws. The countries in which my ancestors lived since medieval times had no overseas colonies, heck most didn't even exist until the end of WW1. Yet somehow a racial bias against me is justified because some other white people, from a different country, speaking different language, and as alien to my ancestors as any black person, did something bad 150 years ago ? What an utter BS.

Now you understand what minorities feel, good job.

Except that today's conservative is yesterday's liberal. The society changes, and many of the values that were considered liberal, even revolutionary a hundred years ago now mainstream. A person with strong religious conviction, anti-gay, anti-socialist, yet supporting voting rights for women and equal treatment of all people regardless of race or religion would be a radical liberal in the XIX century. Women ? Blacks ? Voting ?!

That's why I hate labels. I don't buy into some mass-tailored set of ideas. I am very liberal / libertarian in my views on marriage, religion or sex, conservative when it comes to defense, welfare and illegal immigration - but I do believe that the government has it's role and that left to their own devices, with no regulation, the private companies will fairly quickly turn this country into a stagnant swamp divided amongst and ruled by monopolies.

We need another Teddy Roosevelt :)

Yesterday's liberal!?! WTH!! I have no clue where that came from. You are 100% incorrect. Rubbish!! Poppycock!!

If anyone remembers republicans in the past were more liberal then democrats. I mean republicans pushed and passed the 13th amendment.

Play Nice, Be Helpful, and have Respect!

This means keep the language clean, keep your posts polite, and don?t get into arguments over dumb things. If somebody responds to a thread you posted in poor fashion, ignore it, and the moderation team will quickly clean it up (you can always message or email a moderator at any time if you observe anything that is in poor taste/against the rules). Think back to what your parentals and teachers used to lecture - if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Was this meant towards me?

The Republican of today is nothing like the Republican of the Civil War era.

That's not true at all. They believe in freedom and working hard. Unlike the democrats who punish those who work hard by enslaving them in taxes yet they give everything out.

They can't help it... It's in the progressive play book.. Chapter 1 Page 3.

How can Republicans say don't generalize me with my ancestors before for slavery and whatnot, but in the same breath ask for gratefulness for something their ancestors did?

During the 1920s this happened a lot. At one time it was almost impossible to immigrate to the United States unless you were of Northwestern European descent.

I have degrees in History and Political Science, thus I am not blind. It is you who are blind. Your people vote for someone based on their skin color yet claim that Republicans are racist for voting for their candidate because of their skin color. The fact is that the Republicans have done more for the people than the democrats ever will.

Lol, you and others still are trying to limo me in with the dems, I am not Democrat, I repeat, I have no affiliation with any political party. I don't vote based on skin color, I vote for ideas.

And where did I call Republicans racist? And you are right Republicans have done a lot for this country, FDR, Lincoln, etc. all Republicans. But fact of the matter is that in the 21st century, Republicans have some of the most backward and non helpful ideas.

They were good before, but they lost their mojo.
