i have a new gmail account on my iphone 6s. when i tap on the google icon on the main page of the app, it says 'unable to authenticate. please try again.' how do i make a new one?

Can you sign in from a computer or other device? If yes, go to privacy settings and check if you active an 2FA other than the Google Auth. Maybe is that.
