I haven't been able to find anything online about this. My Aperture Library has been stored on an external hard drive as it's too large for my Macbook Pro's internal drive. I presume that's why it didn't offer to import the library and it's faded out when I try to import it manually (even though I have Photos iCloud enabled). I was hoping for at least an error message and explanation, but not even a help file online explaining limitations.
I guess I'm probably an edge case for Apple - a prosumer who's now a consumer photographer (if that), so I have a largish Aperture Library but Photos suits my needs far better now.
At the moment I'm trying to export a folder as a new library onto my internal HDD and see if that works, although I'm doubtful.
