I have just entered the Mac world with a new quad-core i7 Mac Mini, and have upgraded to Yosemite. Loving it so far, as it works great with all of my iOS devices. One question, though-- is it possible to have new email notifications to show as a count on the "Mail" icon in the dock? It will show a count now, but only when I open the Mail app. I just want it to show how many new emails that I have, as they come in, without opening the app to check. Thanks for any help!

The Mail app has to be running in the background in order to have the badge notification displayed when new email arrives. The same thing applies in regard to receiving email notification via the Yosemite Notification Center. Having said that, the answer to your question is no. At least not to my knowledge...
