Why can't I pair my iPhone 5C to my MacBook Pro?

So I have Yosemite on my Macbook Pro from 2013 and I have my iPhone 5c with iOS 7.1 and can NOT get them paired via bluetooth. Is that the reason why or would a case on my iPhone prohibit that? I've been trying for a day or so with no joy.

You made it sound as if you've been using Yosemite since 2013. Is it not still beta? I'm ignorant about all that. I don't have a Mac. I thought one could not pair an iPhone with a computer via bluetooth. Again, that may be my ignorance. I do remember iOS 7.1 had issues with bluetooth. Are you not on 7.1.2?

I have the Yosemite public beta on my Macbook Pro and 7.1.2 on the iPhone. I thought you could connect them but maybe the iPhone has to have iOS 8 on it to work.

It does. You need iOS 8 beta. But, also, continuity does not seem to work yet as I understand it. IDK. I don't have beta. But you do need iOS 8 beta.

If you're using the "Personal Hotspot" feature of the iPhone then you should be able to pair it with your MacBook via Bluetooth. I've done this numerous times in the past with my iPhone 5 and my MacBook (early 2009 model).

On your Mac, goto System Preferences -> General and Disable "Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices".
And try to connect to your device again. Oddly enough, as soon as a pairing establish successfully, i can re-enable handoff and the pairing still works like a charm.

With Yosemite (released version) and iOS 8.02 on a new iPhone6 it doesn't work either. I can send items from my Mac (retina mid 2012) to my iPhone but not the other way around (it's a progress already I guess).

Maybe iOS 8.1 will fix this ?

In the mean time I am using Instashare, it works like a charm.
