Right, unless I am just totally daft, I don't understand.

What is the process to download photos from iCloud, to my Mac desktop? Example, I have taken a photo with my iPhone. Now I want to edit that photo, and then possible post it online. But, when I download the photo from iCloud, via my Mac, the extension is .HEIC. Hmm, what is that?

Thanks in advance, in case I am simply missing something very obvious...

Open the Photos app on the Mac and either import the photos there, or turn on iCloud Photos in the Photos app preferences. The Photos app knows how to edit HEIC files.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207022 High Efficient Imahe Format.

You can edit the image and then save it as-is or save it to jpg or something.

Or, on the iPhone, Settings / Camera / Format and click "Most compatible" to save photos on the iPhone from the start as jpeg and movies as mpeg.

Honestly, I feel so 'slow'. Yesterday evening it dawned on me to use the Photo app on my Mac. All this time I have been browsing to the iCloud website, and then doing what I needed to do.

Thanks for the responses, and suggestions...
