After following the directions to erase my disk, I clicked "Reinstall a new copy of MacOs" and was greeted by a dialog that said "Unable to contact recovery server" with no way to continue without it.

I was crushed thinking I had a blank disk with no way to reinstall MacOs. Then I remembered that I use wireless Internet Access and that information was likely gone in the erase. I found a network cable and a place to plug it into my wireless A/P. The next time I clicked Reinstall, the reinstall started.

Lesson learned: do not attempt a reinstall until you have a plug-in network connection. You might want to add it to your instructions "How to do a clean install of macOS Mojave" https://www.imore.com/how-do-clean-install-macos

I found that out myself, I think once you install it from the Apple server, it will create an install partition on your hard drive, so in the future you can reinstall it without having to contact the Apple server.
