Hello iMore,

Has anyone else notice the spinning beach ball appearing in Mavericks? Doesn't seem to affect performance or use, is this normal?

I saw it a lot before I did a fresh install of mavericks. The upgrade seems to do more harm than good with everyone I know. It's lightning fast now.

I certainly experience beach balls on occasion, and my Maverick is an in-place upgrade from Mountain Lion.

However, my buddy bought a brand new MacBook Pro Retina a couple months ago, it came with Mavericks installed from the the box. I'm guessing it was a factory install of Mavericks. But he receives lots of beach balls. I suspect because he has a lot of third-party software installed on his Mac, including Google Chrome with lots of third-party extensions.
