iWork: Free Upgrades for Trial Users

Not sure if this is a loophole or something Apple did on purpose, but it appears you can get the latest iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) for free on older Macs running Mavericks if you have an iWork trial installed. (It's otherwise only free on newer Macs.)

iWork & iLife are also free upgrades for those (like me) that bought them on DVD back in the day before AppStore was available...

Here are the steps outlined for the Up-To-Date-Program for iWorks (Pages, Numbers and Keynote):

Apple - Up-to-Date Program for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote

1. Make sure they are running OS X Mavericks.

- If you’re running OS X Mavericks, skip to step 2.
- If you are not running OS X Mavericks, launch the Mac App Store, sign in with your Apple ID, and install it, free of charge.

2. Download Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

- In OS X Mavericks, launch the Mac App Store and go to Purchases.

If Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are in your Purchases list, click Accept to install your software.

If Pages, Numbers, and Keynote are not in your Purchases list, apply for the Up‑To‑Date Program.

Not sure it it was intentional or a slip, but either way, it works.

Thanks for this, was having troubles with the up to date program, so went via this method.

The bigger surprise, to me, was realizing that this also happened with trial copies of Aperture--the regular version runs about $80, and unlike the iWork suite is not free for new Macs either. But it seems that Apple has little option but to allow this to happen, unless they want to make things more difficult for legit users.
