Apple airport extreme problem

I was trying to hook up my airport extreme yesterday, and long story short, I can't seem to get it to work. I know how to do it lol. But my Mac wont discover the airport. When it does it says there's an error or something with it, and has an option to click to repair. When I click that it says checking airport extremes configuration but times out. Anyone have any ideas?

Power down your Mac, your router and the airport extreme and then power them back on starting with the router, then the airport extreme and finally your Mac. If you already have a profile for it on your Mac, delete it and create a new profile.
