I haven't upgraded to Lion yet but I probable will be here within the next few days, however, I am wondering if I upgrade to Lion will my iPhoto upgrade as well, and will it even work? I still have iPhoto 08.
Or will I have to purchase the new iPhoto as well?

If I recall correctly you will need iPhoto 11 if you plan to sync your photos with iCloud. If you don't plan to sync then you can still use your current version. It will not upgrade with lion. It would be a separate purchase.

Ok thank you for the help, and I figured I would have to purchase the newer version of iPhoto.

My iPhoto updated with Lion. Would it have mattered how old the old version was?

I did a fresh re-install on my early 2011 Macbook Pro and it had initially removed all iLife related apps completely. I re-installed them from the original applications dvd that came with my Macbook and they have been receiving upgrades OTA.

Yes it matters. I have iPhoto 09 and it didn't update with Lion. To use the syncing service for photos I have to pay to upgrade to iPhoto 11. I'm not interested in doing anything else with iLife at this time.
