The 11" MBA has roughly the same footprint as the iPad. If Apple turned the MBA into a convertible laptop (screen flips, then lays flat on the keyboard to turn into a bulky iPad), would there be a significant market for such a device?
I'm going to guess that they could not retain the current tapered form of the MBA. It would look more like a regular MB Pro. For that reason it might be a tad heavier, but it might also free up extra space for a larger battery, resulting in better battery life.
? 11" MB Air touchscreen convertible (MacBookPad?), 3 lbs., 8 hrs. battery life, runs OS X Lion apps and iOS 5 apps, $1,099
