Why do I have low speaker volume after El Capitan upgrade?

Low speaker volume after El Capitan upgrade

Has anybody experienced low speaker volume after upgrading to El Capitan? My speaker volume was working well but since the upgrade I've had to up the volume to max on everything yet it still sounds like if I had it at half or below. I am on macbook pro mid-2012.

Have you gone into System Preferences -> Sound to make sure nothing is turned down?

I have an early 2015 MBA with EL Capitan with no volume issues at all and I would recheck the output and input settings for sound in Sys pref and make sure the output settings are as they should be at max.

What is PRAM and SMC? How do I access them and change them to increase the volume?
