Is there other way to transfer books from computer to iPad w/o an ebook or iBook app?

You could try Kindle, they have a feature where you can email yourself a book file in order to get it in your library. Just search for Kindle in the App Store. Or you might try this app...

This is an odd question for two reasons:

1. iPad works with apps - how on earth can you open an ebook on an iPad without an app - you are going to save it as a screenshot of your Home Screen? You can practically do nothing on the iPad without apps

2. What's wrong with the iBooks app?

You can still circumvent the iBooks app and add books from your computer to the iPad to third party book-reader apps as described here (but this still requires an app on the iPad to open the book):
