Looking for a solution

Hey everyone
I have a Situation I'm trying to make a simple cost effective way to watch some movies and Netflix in my room.

I have a extra VGA flat panel 20 inch monitor and my iPad

Looking for a way to watch my movies and Netflix etc. I looked at the VGA adapter but from reviews don't think Netflix will project. I'm trying to find a cheap way to do this besides buying another apple tv ( I have one in living room to my flat screen)
I thought about JB the iPad to project. but my iPad is on 4.3.5

I did see some hdmi to VGA cables if I went the apple tv route .. Just trying to make some use of the monitor instead of buying another tv ..

Any ideas to accomplish what I want at the moat coat effective way ?

I think I'm going to try the VGA adapter from what I read Netflix now works on that
