I see a lot of spamming for sex sites, especially in the giveaways and nothing is being done about it? are spammers allowed?

Sigh. Another thread complaining about spam. We really are doing our best over here. There is sooo much spam that we do take care of and most people never see. To help us out, you can hit the little "report post" icon when you come across it and we'll take care of it. We'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

It's interesting that when I searched for spam (before posting this) I was directed to front page...

Forums have always, and always will be, the target of spammers galore. It's a testament to the staff and Mods of TiPb that there isn't as much as I've seen in many other forums. And what spam I do see gets cleaned up PDQ.

Take into consideration that the mods have lives and jobs, they can't (and I'm sure don't want to, who would?) sit online all day watching for spam. I report spam every time I see it and it quickly disappears. Give them a break.

And the one time I saw a pornographic image, I thought it needed more urgent attention as kids do use the forum - so I Tweeted Alli and it was gone within a minute. There are several ways that we can be proactive in helping to get rid of the spam.

I'm guilty of complaining about spam here myself, but the fact remains that of all the iPhone forums I visit regularly, TiPB seems to get hit the worst. So really I'm just curious--why does it seem so much more frequent here, rather than at modmyi, or macrumors, for instance? Is it just that they have more people on the job, or is it possible they have better measures set up to prevent spam from reaching the boards in the first place? Maybe a better comparison is to something like Gmail--obviously they're not relying on actual workers to mark every piece of spam, yet I almost never get spam in my inbox.

I'm sorry if you guys feel like we're unappreciative, but when other forums seem to filter spammers with much greater success we have to ask what more can be done, and whether or not the right tools are being used to make the forums the best they can be.

Here's to hoping TiPB can remain a lively, fun source of information and discussion!

So I tried to help but I'm not allowed to report more than one spammer post per minute...since I don't plan to wait around all night to report them, here is a list of the most recent:

brarpCene
Amappexyrax
qSategoasedsu
Ziggidoappara
PhotoshopCS

these are within the last hour...

Win! :D :D :D

isn't this thread, basically, spam in itself?

LOL not if your replying to it.

I searched first remember! Search function must have hiccuped when I hit "enter". :D

I'm new here anyway, give a newbie a break, especially as I've never seen so much spam in one site. But I am just hearing breaking news! Other sites are now complaining of mass spamming within the past few days! That must be why...

haha, touch? sir! all we can do is report it as soon as we see it and hopefully, if enough of us do it, we can keep it to a minimum

welcome to the forum by the way :)

It's pretty much the same threads being hit regularly. When I got up this morning, I removed 52 spam posts from the contest thread giving away the red and blue kits. That's fifty-two. In one thread! One of them had gone so far as to set up an avatar and everything.

But the amount of spam has actually dropped back a lot in the last 4-5 days.

Spam can be a wonderful thing... when it comes in a can from Austin, MN - about an hour or so away as the crow files from my house :)

Spam with Tabasco Sauce built in... Garlic Spam... Spam with Bacon... yum!! :D

I've noticed that too. I figured it was so intense last week because of the Verizon iPhone launch. It will probably pick up again when it launches to general public.
