Two things Mr moderator, how would I know it was "old"?
Why can't I comment on old threads?
what constitutes an old thread, some sort of time factoring?
If this site wants input/interaction preventing people like me who take the time to register/login will be driven away like right now . . . goodbye.

Hi Jed. Thank you for taking the time to join the iMore forums. In regard to your comments above, I don't know what thread you're referring to, but as a long time moderator here at iMore, those who tend to reply in old threads are typically here for nefarious reasons, but not always.

Still, if you want to reply in an old thread, go ahead, but you may find yourself looking silly if you're asking the OP if the issue he or she posted about in 2010 has been resolved. From that perspective, the moderator who alerted you to the fact that you were posting in an old thread was more than likely trying to be helpful.

Anyway, we would love it if you stuck around and became a respected member of this great community. Take care and have a great weekend...

To answer your question:

- You can see, once in a thread, date comments were posted.

- The thread might have become irrelevant with time (especially regarding an issue OP was having).

- That would be a thread where there haven’t been comments for the last 6-8 months and any additional input wouldn’t be beneficial to said thread or poster.

There are two ways to see the age/date of a post.

This screen shot shows the date of a post from the TapaTalk app:


And this one shows the same info from a browser:


Of course, I can't really say too much about that......I've revived threads that were over a year old before. No worries.
