Folks,

Ok I was just on my way to the bank to make the deposit for my office. Our directory of fiance is out. I seem to get anyone's job who is out, LOL. Anyways I put on "All 70ies Station" on Amazon Prime Music on my iPhone, and it was fantastic, BUT it got me thinking. Was it oldies music? When I was young, IN the 70ies and 80ies we always thought of 50ies music as oldies, BUT I guess times have changed right? And really maybe even 80ies and 90ies music is oldies too, for the younger set?

So that really got me thinking what is oldies music? Is it set? Does it change with time? What do YOU all think of when someone says lets play some oldies? You thinking Elvis, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvanna, Justin Bieber (j/k), or what?

Well technically even Metallica is now in the Oldies I believe the definition is 25 years or older. For me I still see 70’s and earlier as oldies.

It was a sad day when music I grew up loving in high school and college was reclassified as "Oldies"... even worse, when popular songs from the 70's and 80's had been turned into elevator music. But I've evolved... and do enjoy some of today's music... and heck, doesn't Metallica have a new album out? How could they be consider under oldies!!! ;)

Ha ha, they do have a new album yes, but their first five fall under the blanket grouping of oldies unfortunately. You can it on classic rock stations.

I see oldies as 50s and 60s music. The 70s music, such as rock, seems to be refered to as Classic. But that may be changing.

Back in the day, music over 10 years old was considered an oldie, but nowadays, being that radio stations tend to only play music in the top 50, a song can be considered an oldie after a year. Gone are the days when DJs on the radio had the freedom to play whatever sounded good....??????

Doesn't really matter what's considered oldies/classic/etc.

All that matters is that if it's too loud, you're too old!

I'd say pre-1975. The 80s music and late 70s is old enough to be oldies but in my opinion music will have to morph into something totally new like it did in the 60s. For now oldies means 50s, 60s, and early 70s in my opinion.

To my kids, anything I listen to is considered an oldie.......but it’s good that they recognize the sound of those so-called oldies in today’s hit songs.

I still consider oldies music the doo wop stuff from the 50’s and anything before that in the 20th century.

What gets me is, when I turn on a Classic Rock station, I now get 90s rock along with that from the earlier decades. Grunge is now Classic Rock.
