Apple doubles down on 8GB Macs despite calls to increase the base spec ahead of M4 devices

If I were recommending a minimum RAM configuration for a family member or friend who is considering purchasing a new computer, then 16GB would be the suggestion for a Chromebook, Mac, Linux or Windows system if budget were not a primary requirement or constraint. Buyze pointed to web browsing...

    Please help improve iMessage

Yes, I think this would be a good feature. MacOS Mail can schedule, as can Samsung Messages (for a mobile phone operating system app example). Maybe the Mail "code/logic" could be leveraged for iOS Messages. https://support.apple.com/guide/mail/send-an-email-mlhlp1121/mac#:~:text=Schedule an...

    Help! I need to dual-wield

The "system" below works well enough for me. Sharing in the event it may help. My work phone (in an OtterBox case) sits in an OtterBox clip on holder that is attached to my right pocket. When I'm at work, the work phone sits on the desk inside the holder, or attached to my right pocket when...

Hit by AT&T iPhone SOS outage? You could be due compensation

If I understand correctly, there was no "AT&T iPhone SOS outage", rather an AT&T outage which caused impacted iPhones to enter SOS mode. The outage was not also exclusive to iPhones.

    Poor cell reception

You've done a great job trying to figure this out. As EdwinG suggests, getting Apple Support to take a look is a good next step. For consideration, the other potential variables at play could be iOS version, cellular modem, Wi-Fi chip (assuming it is separate from the modem), and wireless...

Thanks to Fedora, it's now much easier to run Linux on your M1 or M2 Macs — just make sure you've got plenty of storage space ready

As the article mentions, I think something like https://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/pro/ would be a capable and flexible "multitool" option for the developer or IT professional use case, rather than wiping an M series Mac for exclusive Linux use. That said, I think the examples provided...

Apple says M3 Macs only need 8GB of RAM, unlike inefficient Windows PCs

The article "Check if your Mac needs more RAM in Activity Monitor" may help. https://support.apple.com/lt-lt/guide/activity-monitor/actmntr34865/mac

Buying an iMac for kids school

If your school district does not issue Chromebooks, then considering a MacBook Air or Pro laptop may be an option. iMac are more like a desktop computer, so not as easy to move around. Once at home, the laptop could be connected to an external monitor if more screen is needed.

IPadOS Rapid Security Response 16.5.1 (c) has been released

The (c) release appears to be the version that works well. https://www.macworld.com/article/1986514/rapid-security-response-ios-ipados-16-5-1-macos-13-4-1-update-webkit-zero-day.html

Strangely MP4 files saved on external USB show up as blank folders with .mp4 extension when accessed from Files app

Sharing in the event it helps. https://support.apple.com/guide/ipad/external-storage-devices-ipad75b7b23f/16.0/ipados/16.0 indicates iPad OS supports exFAT. Some articles/posts online indicate that Paragon may be an option for MacOS and NTFS.

    Airprint

Sharing in the event it may help. Perhaps there is a firmware update available for the Epson printer that may contain AirPrint related fixes/updates? Maybe the particular Epson printer model's Epson support site has a troubleshooting section or document that could help?

Welcome to the all-new iMore Forums! - Please report your bugs here!

In the forum Settings, after changing the default style to "Default style" from the default "use default style: iMore", and then "Saving"; the word "xenFORO" appears in the page upper left corner. xenFORO is a clickable element, and upon opening it in a new tab, the main iMore site page opens...

Agree with HelloNNewman, the yellow font is hard to read and a bit glaring with the default page layout/CSS. Hard to make out the thread topics.

Getting SMS messages but not MMS

Building on the suggestions above, Consumer Cellular has an Unlimited Data plan (including talk/text) for $50 a month. If budget allows, that might also be an option.
