Ok so I've narrowed down the issue further. It seems to be only caused by WPA2 encryption and not the specific router. I'm now back on my Linksys 160N router with no overheating/battery draining on my iPhone now that I've switched to WPA1.

Guys your batter life issues are caused by a Mobile Me bug. If you are currently syncing calenders or contacts or bookmarks via mobile me then deactivate that feature for now until 3.0.1 comes out.
Obviously they needed a clear line of sight to the screen for the camera to show the display properly but you could clearly see that the guy was navigating through everything using just one finger which is easily accomplish able with one hand which will be the actual normal usage.
