It seems a lot easier to fix on the 2nd gen than 1st gen from the guides. Anybody know how I go about switching around the Home buttons from the old panel to the new one?

Well I was thinking of fixing it up you know, just needed info on what looks to be damaged.

I switch it on and it shows recovery mode screen (connect to itunes) and I can't go anywhere with it. I try to do a restore and it comes up with error 1611. It shows the apple logo and the loading circle, then flashes white and resets to the recovery mode screen. Itunes shows error 1611. EDIT...

I connect it to the charger and the charging sing appears on the screen but it doesn't charge. I know it's an ipod touch but this is the best forum around for iphone/ipod related stuff imo.

You're really tempting me to get a 3GS over a 3G. Quick q, does updating the firmware after I've unlocked the phone cause it to be locked again?

So there won't be anything on the box or on the outside? So if I buy a 3G it's safe, I can do an un-tethered jb on it no matter what the date?

Where do you see if the iphone has a date code greater than 40? Does this apply to all or just 3G and 3GS?
