I got the 5 in October as part of my employers corporate account offering. The iPhone was essentially free and so far works great! No reason to upgrade this year. Next time I do I think I'll buy outright.

Have mine since Oct and I love it. Best parts are the lte and the bigger screen!

Ipad mini which was just released has an a5 processor which is almost identical to the a5x in the ipad 3rd gen except for more graphic cores. I'm positive it'll be supported for quite a long while.

Nope, my ipad 3 is just great for work and personal use.

Going from iPad 3 to mini is like going from a BMW to a smart car.

Backup and exchange

I think everyone needs to calm down. I have a 3rg gen iPad and knew when I bought it that it would be replaced eventually. I will enjoy it until the software no longer can be updated and then replace.
