iPad Pro 9.7 is much faster than the archaic iPad 2, better in every way from that generation iPad. Anyone with an iPad Air or older device should seriously consider the iPad Pro 9.7 upgrade. That said, individual use cases are important. It was a great upgrade for me, YMMV.

Note that the iPad is an always on device, serving you notifications and forwarding calls from your configured iPhone, if you ever get one. There's no danger of screen burn in. You can set the auto-lock time by going to Settings/General/Auto-Lock.

Re: My ipad pro 9.7 128gb takes around 25 seconds to boot up I just tested mine. It took 20 seconds to reboot from an off status. I never shut mine down, as a rule, so this is is essentially irrelevant, but thought I'd share.

I have noticed some screen brightening/dimming as my hands block out some light, but no flickering.

I also took my iPad Pro 9.7" out into the bright sunlight and found I could actually read it, so yes, this is an amazing display.
