I have to clear the cobwebs out of my brain..... I started with a Nokia with my first cell contract in 2000(!). I pretty much stayed with Nokias until my first BlackBerry in 2008 or 2009. There are settings within the app that will let you control how the notifications are handled.

I see your point, but it really is a fun feature to have.
