Started using AskLocal recently and it's become the social networking app I'm using most at the moment. It's a way to post messages pinned to locations on the map. Doesn't seem earth shattering, but when you realize you can restrict who can see/reply to your messages based on their distance...
As a student, you'll find AskLocal useful. You can use it to post messages that only people on your campus can see and reply to (messages are pinned a map). The iphone equivalent of posting flyers around campus.

Competition generally gets better results than monopoly, that's why. If AT&T and other carriers were truly competing for each iPhone customer (rather than just competing for who would sign a monopoly deal with Apple), both network and customer service would be much better.
iPad 3G would be interesting if AT&T or someone offered a day by day pre-paid option. With the wide availability of wifi, I would want a 3G ipad only if I can have network access in the few times that wifi isn't available.
