    Guys,

    I could use some help...
Currently I'm using Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac, and I'm mostly satisfied.
(hardly any system slowdown, does the job perfectly, no complaints about usage)
Mostly I say, because there is a tiny bug in the log-in system of the AV that logs me out every 2 days.
This might not sound like a big deal, and actually it's not a dealbreaker... but, with a password of 33 characters (in my case) it's pretty annoying having to log-in every other day.
I already told Bitdefender about this bug, and they said they will fix it, but it's been 2 months already without any fix.

    - Anyway I'm CONSIDERING to make a switch to Kaspersky OR Trend Micro, and I would like to ask you what your experiences with these are on Mac??
    Key features for me are;

    • Time it needs to boot macOS and how much does it slow down the system (system performance)?
    • How good does it work?
I tried ESET 2 years ago, and my Mac got pretty slow... so I don't have the greatest of memories when it comes to ESET.

I don’t see any performance problems using Bitdefender. It’s worked as advertised and as past reviews have stated - fast, compatibility and effective. I have Kaspersky in an enterprise setting but don’t use it on my personal Macs.

I also use DNS-based security when possible. Umbrella and Meraki advanced features. I have not dug in detail to know if Bitdefender is doing that but I see it’s blocked crypto mining sites and spoofed Adobe Flash upgrades.

I have a 'thing' about paying a subscription to software you buy - thereby never really owning it - so while I did once try Bitdefender, I have relied on the 'free' products out there.
I've stuck with Avira Free for many years - it seems lite, it has very good user controls - including scheduling of updates and scans - and it gets good reviews annually at the independent AV Comparatives site -

    https://www.av-comparatives.org/mac-security-reviews/

That said, as you're clearly not delusional about a Mac not needing AV and current AV program works well for you, and you don't mind paying for it yearly, why fool around with it?

    In regard to Kaspersky:

“Kaspersky has acknowledged that its software lifted hacking tools from a home computer in 2014, but said it was not part of an intentional effort to steal information from the NSA. The company's products have been banned from government computers and pulled from the shelves by electronics retailer Best Buy”.

The company also agreed to open review of their code.
