In Safari, what does the transparent Compass-logo mean?

Like the topic title says... what does it mean?
It seems to turn up in the middle of the screen after I download something, and I need to quit Safari completely for it to disappear again.

Well the compass is the Safari logo. I think what you may be referring to is sorta like the hourglass you get in some other programs. It just means the program is still finishing up stuff in the background.

It seems to be a bug... many people are complaining about this too.
It stays in the middle of the screen, and every new download will add an extra compass... they stay until I completely quit Safari.

Ok it could certainly be a bug. Hopefully a fix is coming soon.

Even after 10.13.1 it's still not fixed... not sure why  has such difficulties fixing this silly bug??
(it's turning up less frequent though, but still)
