If your current rMBP is sufficient for your needs then get the iPad Air 2, in my opinion.

Tonight's groan worthy silly question is brought to you by Evilguppy, your ever eager screaming forum techtard: What the hell is rMBP???

Anyway, I love my iPad Air 2, it kicks ****.
Awesome display, responsive screen, easy to handle, fast, sharp, crisp, smooth, freaking awesome in every way.
128 GB, great battery life, I use it for work or for fun, and I take it on trips, I never ever take my MacBook on trips anymore.

rMBP=Retina MacBook Pro.

I personally would go for a Macbook, but since you already have one, I would recommend iPad Air 2 just for reading, web browsing and things like that.

Why a person would replace a retina MBP with a regular Macbook, regardless of whether it's brand new or not, is beyond me. It's not even in the same league performance wise.

If you want power, stick with your MBPr, if you want portability, go with the Air 2. The new MacBook, whilst looking pretty, does not tick any boxes for me at all. None.

Obviously your mileage may vary of course.

Re: new macbook or iPad air 2

Would replacing mac. I want something extra for portability

Portability between the retina MBP and the regular Macbook is negligible...slightly lighter, slightly skinnier. Honestly, in ANY scenario, whether it's a full on replacement for your current system or just something to carry around for traveling, the Macbook really doesn't make sense (in my opinion) when you already have a retina model MBP.

I think the obvious answer here is the iPad Air 2.
