A lot of folks took issue with the notch on phones, so I'm curious as to everyone's thoughts on it making it's way to the MacBook Pro?

Doesn't seem too objectional to me. There is a lot going on behind the notch. Be interesting to see other opinions.
I don’t know. It really depends how it works in practice. If it stays out of the way, I’m okay with it.
I already know that this device is not for me, at the 2500$ starting price.
It wouldn’t bother me at all.
Yeah, the price is certainly up there this time around.
Completely un-necessary IMHO!
My Dell XPS 9310 has thinner bezels all the way around and houses a webcam and Windows Hello IR camera which is MS equivalent of FaceID. Disappointing there is a notch!
I am not too happy about it. It looks as if it could get in the way of menu bars, unless they wrap around the notch.
Doesn’t bother me too much. I’m sure it’ll blend in with the experience!
Also there is no FaceID!
That said, I plan on ordering a 16" maxed out everything with 2TB storage.
Same price as the 16" 2019 i9 machine so there's that.
I am one that will miss the touchbar personally.
Given how good my M1 13" is, I look forward to the increased performance, battery life, and much quieter fan curves!
If you work with ProRes video, M1 isn't an option it's a requirement!
I don't like the 'notch' on anything.
I put black tape over my laptop camera anyway. So I wouldn't care if I ended up owning one.
I like it
I wonder why it's so big.
Without face ID, one or two punchholes or a notch half the size would have sufficed.
Is there more than just a camera and a green LED active indicator?
I do the same thing…makes me feel better lol
I don’t think it’s that big, at least not from the pics I saw. Maybe they needed it that size for the new FaceTime camera.
I agree. If they made it any smaller it would look pretty funny.
but there is no Face Time afaik.
If there was Face Time, I would understand the size, as there is more to cover than just a camera and a LED.
this is the first time ever that I hear someone saying that a notch was made bigger because it looks better that way.
There is FaceTime on my MacBook!
I have to apologize.
It seems that me getting older means going gaga.
I meant Face ID not Face Time.
Of course, the new FACE TIME could be the reason for more space need.
I never a said that [emoji23].
It’s as large as it need to be to double the resolution of the camera to 1080p including a larger image sensor and a new 4 element lens with a wider f/2.0 aperture in an extremely thin enclosure that’s a couple of mm’s thick. [emoji23]. (Not to mention the ambient light sensor, True Tone sensor and an led.)
It’s the one on the far end
well that sounds a little different than "If they made it any smaller it would look pretty funny" :)
That is what I said and it’s true [emoji23]
Vs
I'm sorry, but I can't resist... "to be or notch to be"...
I think the tiny one on the 1st picture looks great.
Too bad reality looks different.
Hitlers mustache [emoji23], no thanks.
Some prefer the reality notch. [emoji41]
So you did in fact mean it, a smaller notch would look strange, funny, weird?
Which, in return, means, they made it bigger to look less strange, funny, weird (besides some suspected potential technical requirements)?
Well, Ted Lasso and his comparably gigantic mustache are for sure the more likable choice for a notch model, if that is how design decisions are made :)
At a week and a day, nothing about the notch has bothered me yet.
If I have any bothers, my inner cheapskate wants a same RAM and storage Air but I've had my new 14 inch Pro on same table as 5-7 other new, late model and premium laptops. The display quality alone make me want to keep it. First there's the tone. After that just enough more size and space to make a difference for more tedious work I do.
I’m not getting one myself, but also, I don’t really spend a lot of time staring, or even looking at, the top bar so…..whatever [emoji23]
John Gruber of Daring Fireball hit the nail on its head for me on his latest The Talk Show. He says that we were conditioned to ignore the menu bar and stare into the rectangle in the middle, and I agree with him 100%. I barely notice the menu bar in day-to-day use.
why don't they add face id?
No one besides Apple knows why.
It is rumoured that the Face ID components require a much thicker enclosure, similar to the iPhone thickness.
