I wiped my Mac but can’t reinstall Mac OS

I have a MacBook Pro from 2012. I wiped it trying to get back to factory settings. At the Mac OS X utilities screen, when I try to “reinstall Mac OS X,” it makes me agree and choose the drive I want it installed on but then it says “can’t download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X.” I’ve restarted and tried this several times (same result). Please help!

Is it safe to assume your Mac is connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable?

I have no idea. I erased the drive then restarted my computer in recovery mode. There it allowed me to connect to WiFi, but it won’t let me reinstall the operating system.

I can only assume the issue is on Apple’s end. Have you contacted Apple Support for assistance?

Which OS X / macOS version are trying to reinstall?

I would go to an electronics store like a Best Buy and download the OS you need on one of their display Macs, just try to be discreet, lol.
