Help with external monitor

I just purchased the new Samsung Thunderbolt 4k curved monitor for my 2018 MacBook. I operate the MacBook with the cover closed and when I stop using the computer the monitor doesn’t go to sleep and keeps displaying with the screen on. There is no monitor setting and I can’t seem to find the right on the MacBook..
