I hzve a mid-2012 MacBook Pro I love and I have run the update 10.13.4 many times in the last month or so and later in the same day, I get a notification that either an update is available or that some updates couldn’t be automatically loaded. I’ve done this over and over. I’m about ready to dump High Sierra for something earlier.

    Per Apple:

Upon completion of the upgrade, macOS High Sierra requires approximately 1.5GB more storage space than macOS Sierra 10.12.6

Have you tried running the Combo Update? It's from Apple, so nothing to worry about.
