Having just got one myself, here's what I found essential and why:
- Hyperdrive Duo: because I needed the ports, also handles one HDMI monitor
- Apple HDMI multiport dongle: To handle the other HDMI monitor
- USB-C to USB3 mini-B cables: for my portable drives with replaceable cables
- USB-A to USB-C dongles: For my devices without removable cables
- An ethernet dongle: currently J5Create USB3, the least janky option on hand.
That covers my home & home office connectivity, but I'll need several more before I can use it on the road:
- Apple VGA multiport dongle: because I still encounter conference rooms with VGA projector hookups
- A magnetic breakaway charger dongle: because MagSafe has saved me on many occasions.
- A couple HMDI to DVI adapters: because loaner monitors often have DVI ports/cables.
- A couple USB-C to lightning cables: so I can hook up my iPhone/iPad without breaking out the dongle lego set.
Still on the lookout for:
- A better ethernet solution
- A good USB-C power bank to get my runtime back to 2015 levels.
- Serial ports (rumors of their demise have no merit)
