Hi all,

I'm a traveller and making a lot of raw-pictures and shooting drone images in 4k. But... i'm an amateur in all that and I don't sell pictures/movies and it isn't at all work-related. However I do not have all the patience in the world ;-) My laptop died and i need a new one...

I want a 15 inch MBP 2017 TB, but i can't really tell if the $2799 is worth the extra 400 dollar if you don't really care about the extra GB's (I prefer an external hard disk and iCloud for image/movies storage, to keep them separate in case my MB gets lost/stolen). So the big question is:

- Is the 2.9 ghz much better than the 2.8 ghz?
- Is the 560 4GB Radeon Pro much better than the 555 2GB Radeon?
- Is the above worth the 400$?

Thanks in advance!!

Alex

Welcome to iMore.

Not unless you are doing some major rendering to your images. I have always gone with the middle of the road for storage as I always store my files externally to save storage on my computer. I always go top of line with all specs but storage. But I do a lot of rendering of 3D and videos which requires top end specs. For your requirements the extra $400 is not worth it. The difference in speed would be negligible and you probably would not even notice it. Hope this helps. Thanks.

I was also looking at this too. I ended up going with the $2700 one. Even though I probably don't need it now, I'm just thinking about later on. Also, if you look at the 2016 models, you had to order from Apple to get the 460 card with the 4GB of RAM. Now it's included. Why? Who knows but Apple. Maybe they might be upping the graphics card to 6GB later on. I don't know. I just got it to have it for later.

I plan on getting into either coding or video editing or both just for a hobby.

I would get the extra storage. I bought a 128gb system a few months ago not realizing that icloud takes up a portion of the harddrive. So in just a few months my computer is at capacity and I keep getting an annoying message about it. I'm upgrading to either a 512gb/1tb system soon. I just wish the 13 incher had the quad core. I really don't want a 15" machine

I'd say to check with Mac Conection.

https://www.macconnection.com/

I use this company a lot for business and I found a 2016 MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2.7GHz Core i7 / 16GB / 512GB / Radeon 460 4GB / Silver for around $2300.

The 2016s are good but just a little more money you can get a 2017 model. This ones been out since June. Newer keyboard, better processor, and other updates. I would try to get the newer one.
