Is there a major difference at all between the new 2017 models on the RAM? I'm looking at buying one in about a month so I'm wondering because money is kind of tight. I've already sold my 1st gen 12.9" iPad Pro for $500 with the extras included. Now to sell my late 2013 15" rMBP than I'll be almost set.

If one has a faster CPU, but the same amount of RAM, then yes there’s a difference in performance, whether or not there’s a ‘major difference’, I don’t know.

What I'm asking about is the base models. I'm going to Best Buy so I wouldn't be upgrading anything. I'm just buying off the shelf. Is the base one good enough or would it be better to shell out the extra $400 which I might have to struggle to get.

After some thought I'm going to buy the 256gb model. I don't think right now that that I need the 512 one. Best Buy said I have two weeks to return it. I'll let you know when I get it. Just have to sell my old MacBook Pro first.

So your focus is on storage space and not necessarily on RAM. In that case, then the devices should work identically with the exception of one having more storage space than the other.

I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to do with 4gb of RAM on a graphics card. "I think" 2gb should be enough. But I'm not too knowledgeable on these matters.

Unless you’re planning on running graphic intensive software, specifically games, 4 GB of VRAM should be more than sufficient, in my opinion.

I'm looking at about $400 more for the 512gb model. I'm buying this at Best Buy and there's no way to upgrade like at the Apple Store.

You should be able to if you order from Apple’s online store and via the Apple Store app.

I know. I've got some credit with Best Buy and some money on a gift card. I've got no choice but to go with Best Buy.

Update: Money wise I think I I'll have to go with the 256gb model. Even though I'm buying it towards the end of July or early August. Hope I don't regret not going with 512gb.

Updated again: my late 2013 15" rMBP is now in someone else's hands. If they buy it then I'm one more step towards getting the new one.

I'm thinking later about Xcode and maybe Final Cut. I might have to struggle to make that extra $400, so I'm trying to make it work with the 2400 dollar one.

I think one thing I forgot to mention is was that I'm getting the 15" models. I don't know if anyone was thinking about the 13" ones. I had the 12.9" iPad Pro and the 13" MacBook Pro would be about the same size, but I think the 15s would be better.

The MacBook Pro is now sold. What my sticking point is on the GB of RAM. I can buy the base model with 256 storage and 2GB RAM next week. I can also later go to apple and get a SSD drive with 500GB storage for $200. The storage is not the problem, it's the extra 2GB of RAM. Like I mentioned before, I'm buying at Best Buy, so I have to buy off the shelf. Is the extra 2 GB of RAM in the $2800 model worth getting? This is my problem because I'm not sure. The RAM I'm talking about is on the Radeon graphics card. The 15" s already come with 16GB of memory.
