Hi all, thanks in advance for your help. This one has been confusing me. I have a MBP 2013 at work, and a MBP 2016 at home. Using the trackpad, (I have no mouse), on the 2016 one, to highlight a random amount of text I can just 1 finger tap and hold, drag, and let the finger up - very intuitive. The best I have been able to do on the 2013 is 1 finger tap - then tap and hold, then drag.

Is there any chance I can configure the 2013 to work just like the 2016 does, or is this due to differences in the track pad (the 2016 has the force touch trackpad)? It confuses my pea brain going between the two :-)

    Thanks!

Most likely has more to do with the OS than the hardware. The OS on the 2013 is probably a different earlier version, BUT it might be able to be upgraded to the OS on the 2016 (mac os Sierra). The 2013 is probably on el captain or earlier.

Perhaps it IS a hardware change then! This might be it, BUT it's expensive.

I believe it's because the 2013 doesn't have Force Touch in the trackpad. On my 2011 MBP I used 2 fingers to copy text. Click the trackpad with my index finger and hold down. Then I use my middle finger to select text. To be honest that's how I still do it on my newer MBP because I forget that I can just use my index finger alone.

I didn't realize they were so pricey! No wonder they don't come as a no cost option with iMacs anymore.

Yea it's like 129 retail, BUT often you can find it for less from 3rd party resellers, BUT you must make sure it's Trackpad 2 not trackpad 1

It'd be cool if Apple brought 3D Touch to iPads and allowed to use it for iMacs and Mac Pros. My trackpad is so big on my MBP w/ Touch Bar that is wouldn't be necessary for laptops, but could be cool for a desktop.
