Now I can relax. Bad thing IMO that I've heard about the iPhone 8 is it's getting bigger. I'm struggling just to find carpenter pants to hold my 7 plus. Another reason I'm not getting it.

The Edition/Pro/X will be slightly larger than the iPhone 7 with a 5.8” display so they say.

I need to buy a new machine - my 2014 macbook pro is falling apart (I hammer it). I write code... and do the odd bit of photoshop if I have to, but don't need a video editing powerhouse etc. I like mac because its unix / posix... and I can run photoshop on it. If Ubuntu had decent native apps - I'd be there... I rarely use finder - doing everything through the command line (I know what you're thinking). I will probably have no use for Touchbar.

I also like 'Retina' screens - and really can't go back to anything else. I'm having difficulty in figuring out which Macbook pro offers best bang for buck. Any advice?

** Edit **

I checked out https://browser.geekbench.com/mac-benchmarks - and a i7 is only 4% faster than stock i5... so decided to go for stock 256GB SSD 13" macbook, no touchbar, and up the ram to 16gb. I store most of my stuff in git... 256GB is more than enough for me. Worse case scenario - I can pick up a decent 1TB SSD for £100.

I ended up getting a 2016 model:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2016)
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics
Radeon Pro 460 4096 MB
Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB

And I got it for $500 less than the 2017 Cadillac model.

Now I just gotta figure out how to post images that aren't 90 degrees rotated.

LOL.
Congrats! It’ll last you for a few years for sure.

Is it good idea to upgrade macbook pro (2013) to the newest one? I'm worried about the count of ports (only usb type-c...). Maybe some one has such experience with the upgrading?

Is your 2013 model still suiting your needs? If that’s the case then I’d stick with it. Hopefully Apple will realize that they made a mistake not including any type A USB ports on this year’s models and takes a step back next year.

Mostly I'm happy, but my model has 8gb RAM, it's not enough for my daily basis for today, when you need to run a lot of programs. Maybe in 2018 Apple will introduce some updates of macbook pro. I hope..

It seems like my sibling might upgrade from her 2012 rMBP to the new MBP with TB.
I would love to upgrade, but I can’t afford it yet.
