I bought one but returned it. Couldn't take the price (almost $4000 CAD) for the 15in model: a nice size compared to my current 13in macbook air; 512gb ssd: seems the right amount of size for a powerful laptop. I feel given the price, the bugs in the touchbar (after just 1 day playing around, notice it's black out on me already) and the poor battery life (intensive tasks drive the battery down faster due to a smaller size battery) are huge compromises. I need it as my daily driver and for bootcamp mode, both of which don't offer me a great battery life.

Coming to this party late. I will more than likely now wait for the 2017 MBP 15. I write and the bigger screen on the 15 appeals to me. Plus, it is not too heavy and well it is a 15" screen in the footprint of a !4'. Would like to now do some photo and video work. I am looking forward to purchasing a new MacBook Pro. Since mine is now 7 years old. Still works fine.

I picked up my new MacBook Pro 15" last Thursday, I absolutely love this thing. Battery isn't bad as everyone has reported. Love the touch bar. This is my first MacBook. I was still using my 12 year old iMac, but wasn't able to handle video editing for my drone videos. Loving the Final Cut Pro editing software as well.

would 8 gb of ram be enough for daily use? Surfing the web, youtube, and a word document here and there. i want to replace my desktop i would like it to last at least 6 years.

I tend to go for max specs as well just to ensure it is future proof.

A thought came up to me this morning. And now I'm deciding whether to upgrade my Late 2013 rMBP to the new Touch Bar model... or I should just get the iPhone 8

I'm still pushing my 7 plus. Spent almost $2850 on the 2017 15" MacBook Pro. I have no money for a new iPhone this year. Even with At&t next. Still trying to come up with the $380 for AppleCare.

Now I can relax. Bad thing IMO that I've heard about the iPhone 8 is it's getting bigger. I'm struggling just to find carpenter pants to hold my 7 plus. Another reason I'm not getting it.

The Edition/Pro/X will be slightly larger than the iPhone 7 with a 5.8” display so they say.

I need to buy a new machine - my 2014 macbook pro is falling apart (I hammer it). I write code... and do the odd bit of photoshop if I have to, but don't need a video editing powerhouse etc. I like mac because its unix / posix... and I can run photoshop on it. If Ubuntu had decent native apps - I'd be there... I rarely use finder - doing everything through the command line (I know what you're thinking). I will probably have no use for Touchbar.

I also like 'Retina' screens - and really can't go back to anything else. I'm having difficulty in figuring out which Macbook pro offers best bang for buck. Any advice?

    ** Edit **

I checked out https://browser.geekbench.com/mac-benchmarks - and a i7 is only 4% faster than stock i5... so decided to go for stock 256GB SSD 13" macbook, no touchbar, and up the ram to 16gb. I store most of my stuff in git... 256GB is more than enough for me. Worse case scenario - I can pick up a decent 1TB SSD for £100.

Buy what you need or want. I’ve got the 2017 15” MacBook Pro and still ain’t really using the touch bar.

I doubt I’ll use the TouchBar often, it’s super cool though.

I use mine mostly for controlling brightness and volume. It's really nice to use the slider over pressing buttons though. I use it to scrub through video as well.
