I have a mac book pro 13" (mid 2012) model which was currently running on El Capitan with a SATA HD. A couple of days back it stopped booting, I assumed it must have either been a hard drive issue or booting issue so here is what i have tried so far:
I went to the internet recovery option (pressing the Command + R). Tried the first aid option. It was fine. The repair button in the disk utility was disabled. Also my disk appeared as Recovery Disc.

Tried loading ubuntu by flashing an external USB (ubuntu without installing) I thought I could try mounting and unmounting the disc. That did not happen so i thought could be an issue with the file system. Tried installing a patch in ubuntu and tried to mount the disc, no help.

Tried connecting the drive as an external disc to another mac, it read the drive, but was showing as a Recovery Disc however I was not able to access or see any folder inside.

My only motive is to get the data recovered. Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks in advance!
