You should notice a difference between this type of work and simpler tasks like word processing or surfing the Internet.

Another thing that can make it hot is using it on something that will prevent the heat from dissipating from the surface. Make sure you have it resting on a smooth, flat surface when using it. Particularly if you're doing intensive activity like @DevilishBanker mentioned.

How old is it. My 2013 model tends to get hot too during video editing.
