Migrating from old to new

I'm thinking about going low-end on a 13" MBPr with the 128 GB SSD. Do I really need to get my current MacBook's total disk space used all the way down to that same capacity to successfully migrate its data to the new machine? My MacBook has a 500GB HD and I've exported practically everything over to an external HD. I've gotten my current usage down to 139 GB.

Yes, you should do some cleanup and get the size down. Otherwise, you could have issues during the migration.
