Try using "Disk Maker X". Here's what you want to do.
1. Inside OS X, download Yosemite from the App Store. It is gonna tell you that you have it already...download anyways.
2. Quit Yosemite Installer. Go to diskmakers(dot)com and download the app and install it.
3. Put a 8 gigabyte thumb drive in and let Disk Maker X do its thing.
4. It will take about 10-20 minutes to install. Once it's done, restart and boot from thumb drive.
***I'm not at my computer, but when you boot into the recovery, boot into disk utility and format the drive. If you do that, there should be no reason why it doesn't install.
