I have a Mid-2012 MacBookPro and Im replacing the HDD with a SSD. Im also replacing the optical drive with the original HDD. I want to move the OS to the SSD but keep the Users folder on my HDD. I know how to point the User directory in Settings but Im not sure how to just move the OS to the SSD.

Im hoping someone can help me find the best way to accomplish the following:

1.) Just move the OS from my HDD to the SSD.
2.) While keeping my Users folder on the HDD.

Its also important for me to note my the files on my HDD take up 600GB and the SSD I ordered is only 128GB. So I cant just transfer EVERYTHING to the SSD and then move what I want to the HDD. I have to find another solution.

I'd create a bootable USB to install OS X. Then make a fresh install of the OS to the SSD. Then use a Time Machine backup to selectively restore what you need to the SSD while leaving your user directory on the HDD.
