    My mac....
    Mid-2009 MacBook Pro, 5,5 13" 2.26gHZ currently has 2GB memory

Looking to upgrade to 4GB (mavericks slowed me down I believe)

Is the memory from OWC a good deal? Is there a better deal? Is 2GB enough for mavericks and anyone have advice to speed me up.

Boot up/shut down times are longer, and usually apps take forever to close.

Thanks for everyones help in advance.

Definitely get at least another 2 GB. My early 2009 MacBook works well with Mavericks. Whether memory from OWC is a good deal, I do not know. That's your call...

Yeah, OWC is good to buy from... Got my '08 MacBook Pro memory from them... Easy install. Mavericks seems no worse than any previous OSX...

Just curious, how much memory are you guys running? And what's startup/ shutdown times for you? Rough guess I'm at like 30secs before I login and hit desktop, about 20 to shut down. Normal?

I've never bothered to pay attention... It's not bothered me.

I have 4 GB of RAM in my MacBook. As for startup and shutdown times, heck, I don't know. I've yet to complain about it, and this coming February will mark the 5th year I've had it.

Ok then tomorrow I think I'll order up my 4GB and give it a try. Is it plug and play or do I have to do anything special after installing?

Also? Is there any cheaper memory that is suggested? Or is OWC the way to go? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to do it right the first time

It's pretty much plug and play. OWC has video tutorials in their site if you need them. Don't know whether OWC has the best prices or not but they are a very reputable Mac dealer.
