with mavericks i find that my battery use is still the same dying fast any big tips to help out

Just go through each and every settings and make changes accordingly.

It helps to click the battery icon and see which apps might be misbehaving and using up a lot of juice. Some non mavericks optimized apps use more than their fair share.

The battery problems that the OP discussed was in regard to his MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Mavericks, and not an iPhone.
