Speed test Retina MBP vs Retina MBP
So this is what I have sitting at my desk right now
Attachment 40428
Two Retina MacBook Pros, long story check my other thread in here to find out why. I figured since I have both for the weekend until I return one I'd do a quick test to see which boots the fastest
The specs:
MBP1
Core i7 2.6
8GB RAM
512 SSD
Mavericks GM seed
MBP2
Core i7 2.6
16GB RAM
256 SSD
Mountain Lion 10.8.3
any guesses which will be faster? I'm just waiting for updates on the second one to finish before I do the test.
Re: Speed test Retina MBP vs Retina MBP
My guess would be the MPB2...:)

Re: Speed test Retina MBP vs Retina MBP
I thought there would have been more guesses. Well you are right MBP 2 was faster by about half a minute.

Re: Speed test Retina MBP vs Retina MBP
I didn't see this until after you posted the results but I would've actually guessed the first one because in my experience so far Mavericks itself seems to speed up the MBP. At least my 2012 retina seems faster with it on. So if you go with the second one, it may be even faster once it has Mavericks.

This is what I was torn about for a little while. I will be doing the test again with them both running Mavericks after I setup the second one to be used. So once both are running Mavericks it should be interesting.

Slightly sidestepping the topic: Anyone know the system requirements for Mavericks yet?
As for the OP, I would have guessed MBP 2. No real concrete reason why beyond the additional RAM. I have used neither Mountain Lion or Mavericks... so I have no idea which one is faster. I'm still on 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. lol

I believe Mavericks has the same requirements as Mountain Lion.

Does Mountain Lion have any specific processor requirements? I see model year and RAM minimums... but doesn't seem to list a minimum processor.

It's whatever processor was in the MBP produced in the given year.

Re: Speed test Retina MBP vs Retina MBP
Funny enough when both Retina MacBook Pros were loaded with Mavericks. It slowed down the 16GB MBP. The first time I ran it there was a different difference in boot up time. This time there was like a 1 second delay between them. It's so short that my 5s wasn't fast enough to catch the difference.
