    If the toshiba is an external (USB) drive, make sure it is properly formatted. By default, OSX can't write to NTFS (windows) formatted drives.

    There are utilities to add that functionality.

    The ability is even built right into OSX for the past few versions but is disabled by default.

    Thank you, I had not known that myself. I need to copy about 2TB of media files from my NAS to to my wifes ext HDD for her use (MBP for me Win7 for her).
