My friend has a 3 year warranty with Apple for the MacBook Air but can't book an appointment with them. If she were to take it too best buy to get fixed is apple ever able to touch the device again? I was going with no but I may be wrong? Does it void out the warranty?

Why not? You should be able to make an appointment via the Apple Store app or THIS link.

I don't see why not unless there is ample proof that the device has been tampered with.
