Handbrake rip=poor iMovie export

I'm trying to do a fan edit using a blu ray ripped with Handbrake. The file plays great in iTunes and when I preview in iMovie. But when I export the finished edit the frame rate is off and the image is jittery. Is there a proper way to rip a disc to use in iMovie or do I need to look into Final Cut?
